Dr. rer. nat. Elke Meissner ist als Leiterin der Gruppe „Defect Engineering“ der Abteilung Kristallzüchtung am Fraunhofer Institut für Integrierte Systeme und Bauelementetechnologie (IISB) in Erlangen tätig.

Sie ist Autor und Co-Autor vieler wissenschaftlicher Beiträge auf dem Gebiet der Struktur-Eigenschaftskorrelation von kristallinen Materialien. In ihrem aktuellen Arbeitsgebiet beschäftigt sie sich mit der strukturellen Perfektion von Halbleiterkristallen. Im Besonderen mit der Untersuchung von Halbleitern mit großer Bandlücke (GaN, AlN), sog. „Wide band gap“ Halbleiter.  

Neben ihrer wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit hat sie einen Lehrauftrag an der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg am Lehrstuhl für Werkstoffe der Elektrotechnik und ist seit 2004 als Mentorin im Mentoring-Programm ARIADNE der Technischen Fakultät der Universität Erlangen tätig.

Dr. Elke Meissner graduated from the University of Erlangen, Germany in the field of applied mineralogy. Later she received a PhD from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.

Dr. Meissner is a senior scientist in the Department of Crystal Growth at the Fraunhofer Institute of Integrated Systems and Device Technology (IISB) in Erlangen, Germany and head of the working group Defect Engineering.

She has a broad background in process properties correlation of advanced materials in various fields like applied & experimental mineralogy, silicon nitride ceramics and nitirde semiconductors. Her recent work is strongly focussed on the structural characterization of crystals and crystal layers of novel semiconductor materials.

Dr. Meissner is inventor or co-inventor of 3 international patents and authored many papers or contributions to journals and conference.
